photosynthesis exploration:
Hypothesis:
I believe the leaves with black paper with have least amount of starch because the plant can not carry out photosynthesis without sunlight, leaves with cellophane will have some starch but not as much as uncovered, and uncovered leaves will have the most starch.
purpose:
To learn about the importance of sunlight in the photosynthesis process and how wavelength and intensity effects this project.
materials:
- Petri Dish
- Green Plant
- Red Plant
- Iodine
- Black Paper
- Alcohol
- Cellophane
- Dropper
- Stirring Stick
- Scissors
- Tweezers
Procedure:
Day 1 - Covered leaves with black paper and colored cellophane
- We covered about 8 leaves: 4 black paper, 4 blue cellophane
Day 2 - We removed leaves, removed chlorophyll by heating leaves in hot ethanol
- Rinse
- Test for starch using iodine
- For colored plant separated red from green leaves, tested separately

refection:
I found that the results were supposed to get were the same as my hypothesis. However, the results we actually got were the exact opposite. This surprised me and most likely due to human error.

If I could do this project again I would make sure to keep the leaves more intact after removal from the plant to make it easier to test for starch. I would also
